Maluuki is from America, and she moved to Tomoeda and started attending Wakamoto Middle in the same class as Sakura in 7th grade.  Maluuki's last name means "wide bridge", and her first name doesn't mean anything, since it's in katakana, but it unfortunately sounds like the word for "log" (maruki).
